What does the class cover?

Over the course of the term classes will include a mixture of colour work (wet and dry), drawing and shading both direct from nature/observation as well as from photographs and artwork. Thematic and project based each week builds skills, technique and knowledge, aiming to cover a broad range of media and approaches.

Do I need previous art experience?

Most classes and courses welcome everyone, but some may be more suited to beginners or those with some experience. Please check if you are unsure.

How to book a class/ course/ workshop

Alice’s classes, courses & workshops are currently booked via email directly with Alice.

If there is space you can visit a class to see if it is going to be a good fit -but this must be agreed in advance.

How do I pay?

Payment is made direct to Alice by bank transfer, cash or card options are also be possible. Payment must be made in advance to confirm your place.

If a class is cancelled by Alice, a refund or alternative session will be offered.

What if I can’t make a class?

Classes are booked in 5 & 10 week blocks. If you have to miss a class for any reason you can usually attend one of the sister classes on alternative day (swapping & doubling up). This should be agreed with Alice in advance to ensure there is space.

Are there any additional costs?

My regular weekly classes and courses do not have additional costs.

What do I need to bring?

This will vary from course to course and week to week with regular classes. It is always possible to borrow and try out media and tools if you need to.

This is a basic art kit for Alice Walker’s classes:

  • Sketchbook with quite thick cartridge paper (white or off white)

  • Multi media pad/ paper or watercolour pad /paper

  • Pencils (a few different grades eg HB, 2B, 4B, 6B)

  • A fine liner (black/ brown or grey waterproof if possible) or black biro

  • Blending stumps

  • Soft eraser

  • Sharpener

  • Ruler

  • Watercolour paints

  • Brushes

  • Colour pencils (water soluble or not)

  • masking tape

Group size

Most classes and courses will be between 6-12 people.

Refreshments

Classes include refreshments (hot drinks/ biscuits) but you are always welcome to bring your own.

Does the venue have disabled access/ friendly/ safe space?

The venue has wheelchair access and facilities. It is also dog friendly and a safe, calm, quiet and welcoming space for all.

Parking

There is some limited parking directly outside the venue with more close-by roadside parking.
