Once Upon a Time

A fairy tale…….is an orally transmitted narrative with a relaxed attitude to the reality principle and plots and constantly refurbished in the retelling’
Angela Carter

The themes in this collection are the contrasting worlds of domestic familiarity and dreamlike imagination. Some of the pieces were begun over eight years ago when my first daughter was born but most more recently. More than ever this work is deeply personal and narrative. It is about becoming a mother and my re-emersion into the world of fairy tales as I read them to my children. One of the gifts of spending time with children is the chance to see the world through those eyes again, and to appreciate how much those early stories shaped us!
